LCD means liquid crystal display, which is often referred to as a liquid crystal screen; TFT means thin film field effect transistor; TFT-LCD refers to a liquid crystal screen that uses TFT to control liquid crystal pixels, which is the most commonly used type among many LCDs. TFT-LCD is actually a component, which is often called a liquid crystal screen component, and is mainly composed of a liquid crystal panel, a backlight, a uniform film, a row and column drive circuit, and a timing control circuit (often called a logic board). The TFT-LCD interface that is often said refers to the interface where the LCD screen component is connected to the main board (also known as the signal processing board, or signal board), that is, the signal input interface of the logic board.

Among many liquid crystal displays, TFT-LCD signal interfaces include SPI, MCU, RGB, LVDS, MIPI, eDP, HDMI and other types. Among these interfaces, MCU, RGB, LVDS, MIPI and other signal interfaces are some of the most commonly used interface types on the market. Let me introduce the interface types of each size of the TFT-LCD LCD screen.

(1) Small size TFT-LCD interface

Small-size TFT-LCD screens generally refer to those below 3.5 inches, and such small-size TFT-LCD screens have relatively low resolution, so the transmission speed is relatively low, so they all use low-speed serial ports, generally RGB, MCU, SPI, etc., and can cover anything below 720P.

(2) Medium-size TFT-LCD interface

The general size of medium-sized TFT-LCD liquid crystal screens includes between 3.5 inches and 10.1 inches. The general resolution of medium-sized TFT-LCD liquid crystal screens is also high resolution, so the transmission speed is relatively higher. The interfaces of common medium-sized TFT-LCD LCD screens include MIPI, LVDS, EDP, and RGB, etc. RGB is more commonly used, MIPI is relatively more used for vertical screens, LVDS is used more for horizontal screens, and EDP is generally used for higher-resolution TFT-LCD LCD screens.

(3) Large size TFT-LCD interface

Large-size TFT-LCD LCD screens from 10 inches and above can be listed as one of them, and the interface types commonly used for large-size screens include EDP, HDMI, VGA, etc., and these types of interfaces are very standard. Generally, they can be used directly after plugging in without conversion. It is convenient and fast to use.

The interface of the TFT-LCD liquid crystal screen is roughly distributed in this way in terms of size, and there are specific rules for applications in different industries or products. It is especially important to confirm the interface type when we measure the screen daily, otherwise it will cause no picture or burn the screen, so everyone must be familiar with various types of interfaces in order to use them better.
